Eng. Chamila Ranasinghe

SELECT Master program is not just an education certificate, but a lifetime experience with SELECT community coming from diverse cultures, different levels of knowledge and skills in the world. Being a part of SELECT, we gathered an enormous knowledge on “sustainable energy systems for the future” to develop high quality engineering skills in this field including training in business and innovation. The activities such as “SELECT spring seminar” in Krakow Poland, Lisbon Portugal and the “Introductory Crash Course” at ESADE in Barcelona were memorable career experiences.

I am a BSc Eng Mechanical (First Class Honours) graduate of University of Peradeniya with specialization in the stream of power and energy. I was awarded “M.D.J.F JAYAMANNA AWARD-2009” for the Best Undergraduate Project in Mechanical Engineering presented at Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) for “Design and Fabrication of a Power Weeder for Law Land Paddy Fields”. After completing my BSc I worked in the Department of mechanical engineering, University of Peradeniya as a lecturer.

During that time, I was pursuing an opportunity for higher education in the field of “sustainable energy”. Energy and environment is becoming a global problem, so, it inspired me exploring this field, and I chose it as an interesting path for my career. At that moment, I got to know about the SELECT (Environomical pathways for Sustainable energy systems) master program. Among hundreds of applicants all over the world, I was selected for the master program, and I was fortunate to obtain the InnoEnergy scholarship as well. I started my master degree (first year) at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden and then successfully completed my second year at Polytechnic di Torino, Italy.

Currently I’m working as an Operation Engineer at ‘Yugadanavi 300MW Combined Cycle Power Plant’, The largest Combined Cycle Power plant in Sri Lanka. I’m using the skills and experiences gained from my MSc program for my profession and the development of energy sector in Sri lanka. Finally I would like to thank all the people supported in SELECT MSc program and wish all the success for the upcoming ‘SELECT’ students.
